Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 11, 2026

Thank you for using MetadataRemover. We built this app with privacy as our core principle.

Our Promise: Your photos never leave your device. All metadata reading and removal happens entirely on your iPhone. We never receive, see, or store your photos, their metadata, or anything written in them.

Information We Collect

We never collect your photos, videos, or their metadata (locations, names, dates, camera details, captions, AI prompts, or file names).

To improve the app, MetadataRemover sends anonymous usage statistics (see Usage Analytics below). You can turn these off at any time. The app does not require an account or login, does not show ads, and does not track you across other apps or websites.

Photo Processing

All photo and video metadata reading and removal is performed locally on your device using Apple's native frameworks (ImageIO and AVFoundation). Your photos are processed in memory or in temporary files that the app deletes, and are never transmitted over the internet by the app.

Photo Library Access

The app requests permission to access your Photo Library. This access is used to:

You can change or revoke this permission at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Photos > MetadataRemover.

Place Names and Maps

When a photo contains a location, the app can show a nearby place name and a map. To do this, the photo's coordinates are sent to Apple Maps, a service provided by Apple under Apple's privacy policy. When you search for a place while editing a photo's location, your search text is sent to Apple Maps as well. No photo or other metadata is sent. Without an internet connection, the app works without place names.

Usage Analytics

To understand which features are used and how the subscription offer performs, the app sends anonymous usage events to Google Analytics for Firebase, for example "a photo was cleaned", "the library scan finished", or "the subscription screen was shown". These events:

You can turn analytics off at any time in Settings > MetadataRemover > Share Anonymous Usage Data. Google's handling of this data is described at firebase.google.com/support/privacy.

Data Stored on Your Device

The app stores the following locally on your device:

This data stays on your device, is shared only between the app and its Share Extension, and is deleted when you uninstall the app.

Share Extension and Shortcuts

Cleaning photos from the Share sheet or with Shortcuts works the same way: on your device, without uploading anything. These features record anonymous usage events on your device, which the app sends the next time you open it (subject to the analytics setting above).

Subscriptions

Premium subscriptions and purchases are processed entirely through Apple's App Store. We do not have access to your payment information. Anonymous analytics record that the subscription screen was shown or that a purchase was completed, without any personal or payment details. Subscription management is handled by Apple in your device Settings.

Third-Party Services

We do not use advertising networks or sell or share data with data brokers.

Children's Privacy

The app is rated 4+ and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. Usage analytics are anonymous, as described above.

Data Security

Your photos and their metadata are never transmitted by the app, so they cannot be exposed through any server of ours. Anonymous analytics are sent over encrypted connections.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
